Fairchild Drive Construction Site Public Health Assessment

Timeframe: 1997 to 1999

IAI, in partnership with the California Department of Health Services (now the California Department of Public Health), conducted a health consultation for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry. The consultation evaluated a possible chemical exposure to an employee at the Fairchild Drive Sign Construction site. The employee noticed a chemical odor, felt dizzy and disoriented, and had a headache after working at the site. The data available for this health consultation indicated that a completed exposure pathway existed at the Fairchild Drive Sign Construction Site. However, the analyses indicated that the air and soil contaminants at the levels measured would not be expected to cause adverse health effects. Because of limitations with the available data, IAI could not eliminate several possibilities, including the possibility of an unusual response such as a hypersensitive reaction to the contaminants.
