California Breathing: Strategic Plan for Asthma in California

Project Timeframe: 2006 to 2008

California Breathing is a program within the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) that addresses the burden of asthma through a holistic public health perspective. IAI staff form a vital role in the development of the Strategic Plan for Asthma in California, utilizing stakeholder meetings, in-depth leadership interviews, and data analysis. The Plan is designed to help state agencies, health organizations, and members of the community develop local work plans for addressing asthma. While using this Plan, five important cross-cutting priorities were taken into consideration: reducing asthma disparities, fostering asthma awareness and education, focusing on asthma throughout the lifespan, changing systems and policies within organizations, and creating the most health protective asthma policies. The Plan is currently being implemented by CDPH.
