Pacific Gas and Electric Public Health Assessment

Timeframe: 1998 to 2010

In 1998, the California Department of Public Health engaged IAI to conduct a health assessment of a Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) site in Hinkley, California. CDPH became involved at the site in response to health concerns from past and current exposure to hexavalent chromium. IAI's evaluation of existing environmental data revealed two completed historical exposure pathways for hexavalent chromium. IAI estimated a moderately increased cancer risk from the ingestion of hexavalent chromium in groundwater. In addition, IAI identified potential past exposure pathways that may have impacted PG&E employees at the site as well as at the Land Treatment Field.
