Engaging San Francisco Bay Fishing Communities

Project Timeframe: 2010 to 2012

Initiated by the Environmental Health Investigations Branch of the California Department of Public Health, this two-year project was tasked with reducing exposure to harmful chemicals from eating San Francisco Bay fish. Focusing on vulnerable populations in the Bay Area, IAI developed and implemented a multi-pronged community engagement plan that included an outreach strategy, an 18-member stakeholder advisory group, a small grants program, and education activities. Additionally, IAI staff provided training and support to four partner community-based organizations.
