Monitoring Early Childhood Autism (MECA)

Project Timeframe: 2007 to 2013

IAI staff coordinate a multi-agency effort  funded by the Centers for Disease Control Prevention and the National Center for Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities.  The project will develop an ASD monitoring system for children under 4 years of age in Santa Clara County. The primary goals of CA-MECA are implement early developmental screening for children and to identify and monitor children diagnosed with ASD by the age of 4. Through this project we hope to guide planning services for children with ASD, understand the characteristics of these children, and examine why Hispanic children seem to have lower rates of ASD.
