Demographic Consequences of the Offshore Petroleum Industry

This project generated in-depth analysis of demographic changes associated with development of offshore oil and gas resources in the Gulf of Mexico. The study focused especially on changes occurring in Louisiana and Texas during the first part of the 20th century – a period of rapid industry expansion. The analysis sheds light on the nature of social-structural changes that would likely accompany rapid development of deep water oil and gas resources along the region’s Outer Continental Shelf in the years to come.
