The Northern Institutional Profile Analysis was undertaken to provide federal agencies with a clear understanding of social and economic aspects of life in Alaska communities that could experience rapid change due to offshore oil and gas development in the northern reaches of Alaska. Detailed socioeconomic and cultural description is based on synthesis of then-available archival data and ethnographic work in each community.
