Hurricanes and Other Ocean Storm Events
Historic settlement patterns and the contemporary attractions of coastal living have led to extensive population growth along much of our nation’s coastal zone. All too often, persons living in or visiting coastal areas find themselves in jeopardy during hurricanes, tropical storms, and strong extra-tropical low-pressure events. For governmental agencies responsible for these areas, analysis of actual disaster situations is essential for developing effective near-term response and long-term hazard and disaster mitigation planning. Our research experience and capacity to respond quickly to ocean storm disaster events make IAI the ideal candidate for undertaking detailed assessments of response planning and event impacts on affected communities.
