Biomonitoring

In recent years, the use of biomonitoring has expanded from occupational and clinical settings to assessing the general population’s exposures to chemicals. Determining the levels of chemicals in the population allows researchers to establish trends in these exposure levels over time and assess the effectiveness of regulatory programs and public health efforts to reduce exposures. IAI staff have taken a leadership role in designing and implementing biomonitoring programs in California.
