Timeframe: 1988 to 1997
Since 1951, Aerojet has manufactured liquid and solid propellants for military and commercial rocket systems, and has fabricated, tested, and rehabilitated rocket engines in Rancho Cordova, California. In 1988, IAI was asked to conduct a health consultation on possible impacts from drinking water contamination stemming from Aeorjet’s disposal process. Based on the information reviewed, IAI determined that there was a completed exposure pathway to perchlorate-contaminated water in the Cordova System. Residents and workers who lived or worked at businesses near the contaminated wells may have been exposed on a regular basis to the perchlorate when they drank water or bathed. IAI issued a wide range of recommendations for remediation, monitoring, and research.
