Hookston Station is a mixed commercial and light industrial business site located adjacent to a high-density housing complex. During the 1960s and 1970s, the industrial facilities utilized trichloroethylene (TCE) in their manufacturing processes.
In partnership with the California Department of Public Health, IAI conducted investigations into soil and groundwater contamination between 1989 and 1996. The studies included a soil vapor study, soil and groundwater sampling, as well as a human health risk assessment. The exposures of greatest concern at this site were indoor air exposure of residents to TCE. In 2005, IAI also reviewed the baseline risk assessment developed by the California Regional Water Quality Control Board.
