This multi-year project enabled identification of social factors and processes potentially affected by planning, development, and operation of high-level nuclear waste repository at an existing plutonium production site in Hanford, Washington. Project findings were used in planning activities undertaken by the State of Washington and various federal agencies. These ultimately contributed to planning assessment work at the prospective new site at Yucca Mountain in Nevada.
