Offshore Energy Development
Meeting the nation’s needs for renewable and petroleum-based energy is a vital function of the federal government. IAI has supported federal agencies in ongoing efforts to assess the potential human effects of offshore and shoreside development, as mandated by policies such as the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA), and many others. While our early research focused on changing social, economic, and cultural conditions in Alaska Native communities vis-à-vis development, the firm gradually expanded its geographic focus to include the Gulf of Mexico and the Mid-Atlantic regions.
